In addition to the duties enumerated in the attached

papers, one officer in each relief is told off to make out the mail notice & make the entries in the Departure book; the officer in charge checks the mail notice, & enters in detail in a separate book the mail to be closed. ,with the names of the officers to whom the closing of the mails is alloted; & when the mails have been closed the officers concerned sign their names opposite the

entries of the mails.

The officer in charge opens mails received; & beside signing the letter bills as correct, has to enter the

arrival in the arrival book, enter the transit closed

mails in the closed mall book, enter the bags &c. of

registered articles in a book to be signed by an officer of the Registration Branch; plase the closed mails recei-

red in the closed mail room, prepare bulletins if any

errors are observed in the mail, file the letter bills,

& in the case of mails from an Imperial Chinese Post

Office, to sign & return an acknowledgement portion of

the letter bill.

Officers closing mails have to examine the closed.

mail book, & if there are closed mails to be sent in

the mails they are closing, they have to inspect those

mails, enter them on the letter bills and on the slips

for filing here,&despatch them. All officers have to

assist in sorting incoming mails & for out going mails
